Student tenants that are just about to move into my house have said they can't pay the deposit until September (tenancy starts 3rd July).  They have said if I don't accept it I should cancel their contract!

I am unsure how to respond, they have already had one fallout with one of the group and I think the lead tenant is turning this into a power game. I will not cancel the contract as it is too late to get other tenants although I would prefer not to rent to these guys now, based on the attitude of this lead tenant.

I want to go back with fact but not in a way that could be perceived as a power struggle, as that is not the way to start a tenancy, even though I know I have the law on my side.
