Issued S21(1)b at tenancy start - don't want statutory periodic tenancy

Hi, I issued the Section 21(1)b after signing of contract, if I do not want it to become a statutory periodic tenancy at the end of the fixed term, what action must I take to ensure the tenants leave on the last day of the tenancy. I have informed them in writing 2 months prior to the tenancy end date that I require them to depart at the end of the Tenancy. If they are still there when the tenancy ends, I presume I can immediately apply for possesion, is this the case?
