Could anyone please advice on how to deal with this issue of variable benefit payment from the council and the tenant having to top up the pay. The tenant's benefit was short of the full rent hence she agreed to pay the balance and paid one month rent in advance that covers the first few months top up. However, the benefit from the council has been reduced twice since the last four months that she took over the tenancy. It is now down to half of the rent. I am afraid that the tenant might not be able to pay the remaining half and I do not know how to reclaculate the top up since council pays weekly while the agreement with her on AST is monthly.
