Purchase of existing Tenanted House

My wife and I have recently completed the purchase of our first buy to let property. The property is let to five students under an Assured Shorthold Tenancy Agreement which expires on 30th June 2007. Do I need to ask the tenants to sign a new agreement or is the tenancy automatically assigned to us as the new landlord's?
