Can replacement white goods be claimed as maintenance

Last year I took on a property that needed significant improvement before it could be let. This included the kitchen. I understand that I can claim for the worksurface/ units that were replaced with any additional units being considered as a capital improvement.

However, does the same principle apply to the replacement of the existing white goods - in this case the fridge, freezer and washing machine were unreliable and needed replacing because they had been neglected. Can the replacements be offset against the rental income as maintenance?
