Is there anything to stop me following the RLA advice of taking 2 months rent in advance but in addition taking a small deposit which would qualify for the reduced "lite" deposit fees now available under the TDSL scheme?

In my experience apart from rent arrears, or more likely rent for an extra few days extension of the rental period, actual amounts needed to be witheld from the deposit for damage are small and therefore I would be quite happy to only take a deposit of £200 for damage/breakages.A low cost scheme is available from TDSL for deposits under £300.

Is there anything to stop me doing this and why does the RLA not advise holding deposits of under £600?
