Rent and damage to property exceeds deposit amount

Our tenant failed to pay their rent for the month prior to their move out. Following their move out the property was left in poor condition and extensive damage was caused to the decor.

The cost of repairing the damage to the decor and the final month rent payment exceed to deposit amount. I have requested the payment from the tenant but they are refusing to pay.

What steps should I take to recover payment for the extensive damage caused to the property?
