I always protect my tenant's deposits by placing them in the custody scheme as soon as i receive them. I then receive a 'certificate' from the scheme which contains details such as the amount of the deposit and the name and address of the tenant etc. The tenant receives one as well. The tanancy agreement contains details of the landlord and tenant, the tenancy start date, the rent and the deposit. Am i right in thinking that i still have to provide exactly the same information to the tenant in the form of 'the prescribed information' together with the 6 page copy of 'rules of the scheme' (which my tenants say they receive from the tenancy deposit scheme along with their certificate anyway). Can i be fined for not providing it even though the deposit has been 'protected'? what if i issue it but the tenant claims that i didn't? I'd be grateful for any info
