Forgotten to Protect a Deposit

Hello

I have forgotten to protect a tenants deposit, can I still protect it, the tenant has not asked for any information regarding the deposit, they just have a signed receipt for the payment of the deposit.

Please advise me on what my options are to avoid any penalties.
