Providing that the tenancy agreement allows for it, interest may be charged on rent arrears. Be careful that you do not quote too high an interest rate, otherwise the clause in your tenancy agreement will be deemed unfair under the Unfair Terms in Consumer Contracts Regulations 1999. Remember that if you apply for judgement in the county court for rent arrears, you may charge interest then.
