We have a female tenant with a dependant daughter (who is just 18 and in full time education). The tenant has jest been found guilty of Drink Driving (three times over the limit) for the third time and it looks like she will be sent to prison when sentenced next week. Her rent is currently paid in full by housing benefit direct to her which she the transfers to us by standing order. My questions are,
1. If she is sentenced to a custodial sentence will housing benefit continue to pay her rent?
2. Will her daughter’s situation affect the benefit claim?
3. Would I be wise to accept rent paid direct to me if benefit is still paid in full?
4. What should I be wary of?
