Tenancy Types and Management

A tennant on an assured shorthold tenancy telephoned me to say he had moved out of the property and moved away from the area , he said he has given the keys to his friend who has been staying with him recently and his friend wants to carry on living in the property. The tenant gave no notice although he has no outstanding rent arreas but I do not want his friend to stay in the property , can you please advise me as to the best course of action to gain possession a.s.a.p
