ending a periodic tenancy

my tenant has rolled over to a periodic tenancy and has given me a months notice. tenancy commenced on 1st of the month and the rent is also paid on the 1st. what date does her tenancy end? is it the 1st of the following month or the last day of the month in which notice was received,ie.the day before the next rent is due?
