Most ASTs provide for a 2 month break clause after a 6 month period - making the minimum term 8 months. If this was the case, your tenants would be liable for the full 8 months rent if

a. this has been stipulated in the AST, and
b. you have not agreed agreed to let them do otherwise (especially in writing).

Whether or not you pursue the claim though depends on how likely you think you are to get the money from the tenants. You can fill out a money claim and if you know their forwarding address then proceed.

However, for amicability, you may prefer to agree with the tenants that they will cover the rent until you find someone as, I am not sure that the law allows you to charge 2 rents for the same period on the same property (i.e. if you get another tenant tomorrow but you still try to make the ex tenants pay for the same period).
