I have had my model tenants for 3 years. Pay their rent on time, look after the property - have in fact improved it! And are content to stay on indefinately.

They are originally from Russia and have their mother staying with them, who is applying to have her visa extended.

They are currently on a rolling periodic tenancy, the original one was for 6 months. They have sent this off with the documentation to support that they have a permanent address. However, they have been told that it needs to show a longer fixed period to the contract, say 18 months. not a problem I thought as I could just renew their contract with a 18mth term and put their deposit in a TDS but they have asked to backdate it to May/June 2009. Is this legal???
