Tenants careless or idiotic use of vacs/hoovers I provide in shared houses [for 3] has often resulted in floors not cleaned and machines discarded when rubber belts are snapped, bags are full or busted,filters clogged, or due to all these ... motor burn out.

Last term I began a Hoover maintenance check; changing bags and filters,unblocking hoses,sweeper brushes and testing belts. This is working as the houses are cleaner but it's time consuming.
I wondered what other landlords do to maintain machines they provide?

I ask that my properties are 'regularly' cleaned so I feel I must provide the means for tenants to accomplish this. Over the years I've:
provided 'basic' vacs that are cheap to replace if over used, provided the first vac and emphasising a mis-used machine must be replaced or repaired, made deductions from deposit for a [ 3 month old] vac found [clogged up]dumped in the wheelie bin.
Any other tried and tested strategies gratefully received.
