Notice period when living with landlord who rents from private landlord

I ahve a studnet who rents a house from a private landlord and has an AST. He in turn rents a room out to another student who I believe is a subtenant, this is done with the agreement of the head landlord.

However, the subtenant has now started breaching the contract by smoking within the property, slamming doors late at night/early hours of morning, leaving ground floor windows wide open and using their belongings. Despite the landlord talking to her about this and her confirming in writing that she would refrain she continues with this unpleasant behaviour.

Please can you confirm if the landlord that she lives with can just give her written notice to leave as per her payment schedule.
