The tenant has signed for a fixed term ending on a date noted in the tenancy agreement, therefore does not have to give you any notice whatsoever, if he terminates on this day. However, if he goes one day over this date, the tenancy will have become periodic, whereupon he is required to give one month's notice.

May I suggest you talk to the tenant about one month before the end of the fixed term to ascertain the future of the tenancy after the fixed term.
