Damages due to delayed completion

I recently purchased a buy-to-let property which involved the mortgage lender not releasing the funds in time for completion, due to an "admin" error. The funds were released four days later (including the weekend). As expected, I have received a damages claim from the vendor. This includes extra legal fees and mortgage interest, which I expected and is reasonable. However, he has also claimed what I think are unreasonable costs such as buying a dinner suit for a black tie event, money for being unable to work on Sunday etc. Is there a guide for what can and can't be included in the damages claim, and should I worry about it, as I will be on-claiming the mortgage lender.
Thanks for your help
