We wish to add a tenant to an existing AST agreement. We understand from your recent course we need a new AST contract. The existing "rent day" is 1st of the month and it is important for tenants that it stays this day.

The new tenant want to join the houshold on the 15th. A new AST will be written to include the new tenant...so the new AST would normally start on the 15th but here the tenants want to pay on the 1st (as they are doing at the moment).

Is it possible for the rent to continue to be paid on the 1st? Can I "backdate the contract term" for the new tenant so the new contract is shown to start on the 1st (2 weeks before the new person actually moves in)? Or...is this a bad idea and some kind of addendum better?
