Can you let a property you don't own?

My wife has Enduring Power of Attourney for her elderly mother. We plan to rent out her mother's property rather than leave it empty or sell it. Does it matter whose name the property is let under? It would be easier in some ways for it to be let out in my wife's name. And i assume this is ok to do.
