Century Films has told the RLA's PR agency Powell Communications about a documentary they are making for the BBC about "Cannabis Factories" - where dealers rent residential properties to grow large amounts of cannabis. They are filming, with the co-operation of the police, during October and are looking for landlords with direct experience of this problem.

They explain: "This has become a serious problem for landlords as more and more cannabis is actually grown in the UK. Dealers have been known to turn every room in the house into a jungle as they try to grow as many plants as possible. They tamper with the electricity, often damaging walls and leaving the property unsafe. Properties are returned to unsuspecting landlords in a dreadful state and unfortunately insurance companies will not pay out as it is criminal damage. Landlords are being left with bills for thousands of pounds to restore these properties."

Gayl Paterson, associate producer at Century Films www.centuryfilmsltd.com) would like to speak to landlords who have experienced this ... as "it is important to raise awareness and hopefully prevent otherlandlords from being caught out." She can be contacted on 020 7378 6106 - but please also let Emma Wimpeney know at Powells (tel: 0161 828 5400; e-mail emma.wimpeney@powell-pr.co.uk).

Gayl writes: "Century Films is an award-winning documentary and drama production company with a great reputation for producing intelligent, high-end documentaries and drama for the BBC, Channel 4 and ITV. We have won the Best Documentary BAFTA twice in the last few years - once for Make Me Normal (Channel 4), a documentary about a school for young people with autistic spectrum disorders; and for Feltham Sings (Channel 4), a film about a young offender¹s institution with the verse set to music. We recently won the Grierson Award for Best Documentary-Drama for Consent (BBC) which combined dramatic elements with a rape trial set in a real courtroom with real lawyers, judge and jury, and produced the award-winning drama Bella and the Boys, about a children¹s home, which featured Billie Piper. We pride ourselves on making sensitive, engaging, humorous films, often
working in collaboration with major institutions and organisations such as the Metropolitan Police, Home Office and Norwich Union. We are experienced in tackling difficult, sensitive subjects with integrity and warmth, and profiling the work of individuals, organisations and institutions. If required, we can provide references from the Home Office Press Office, and any of the other people we¹ve worked with. Additionally we have worked on cinematic release films our Managing Director Brian Hill directed Nobody Someday, the definitive access-driven film with Robbie Williams, and also produces UNICEF campaign films for cinema release featuring celebrities including Gwyneth Paltrow. Brian recently directed the follow-up to Al Gore¹s An Inconvenient Truth in association with Participant Pictures which will be released worldwide in 2009."
