inventory checks before contract renewal

My current tenants are just coming to the end of their 6 month AST and have indicated that they would like to sign for a further 6 months.

I understand that I will need to give them a new contract and re-register their deposit - but do I also have to check the old inventory for damages etc and then do another one for the new contract? Or can I simply leave the existing inventory on file and use it in 6 months time?

Thanks for any advice on this.
