I pay £450 per annum for their landlord cover because as they say 'they offer peace of mind' well
yesterday they carried out the annual safety check on a boiler and gas hob, unbeknown to me they shut the boiler down told the tenant (young mum with baby) that it was dangerous and left but not before he mentioned that the electrics were unsafe as well..........my tenant called me I contacted customer relations where their CEO is based ( my problems with BG go way back) it turned out that the engineer didn't realise that the boiler was covered by insurance ( as if) to cut a long story short I've spend two very stressful days dealing with them and listening to all their excuses, BG had said they would go back to the property today with the parts and try to fix the boiler but as it was 6 years old it might need a part that is now obsolete and then i would have to replace the boiler (i wish i had a pound for everytime ive been told this) in the meantime by tenant contacts her Environmental Health and I now have them on by back as well , they have told me in a very heavy handed way that i need to get the electrics tested as well as sort the boiler and let them know when this has happened, I have been a landlord for over 6 years but I have never experienced any thing like this, BG return to the property today and repair the boiler and issue a safety certificate, i ask the engineer is he an electrician and he said no but he thinks the house does not have an earth rod (the majority of the homes in England don't have one)i know exactly where BG are coming from when they mention a new boiler they are waiting to see if you agree to it, I rang a plumbers merchants near where i live and the was told that he they just did not believe that parts for boilers less than 6 years old would be obsolete, any way i am yet again writing to Sam Laidlow CEO of BG informing of the above situation and cancelling my insurance with them as dealing with your local plumber could not be worse than this, sorry about the rant but I have had it being a landlord (someone remind me why we do it)
