I would like to increase the rent for our tenants, they have been living there since July 2007 and the rent hasn't increased since they moved in. I have contacted a few agents and they have suggested the rent should be £50 to £100 more than they are currently paying.

They are very good tenants, we live a long way away and so we can't visit that often and he carries out most repairs himself sending us the the receipt. So I would just like to increase it by an extra £50 per month. They signed an RLA AST in 2007 and I have kept the same agreement, allowing the agreement to continue each year. I can't find any clause regarding increasing the rent. Does it need to be in writing? How much notice do I need to give?

Many Thanks
