Extending an Assured Shorthold Tenancy for another 12 months

Looking at the problems discussed on the RLA forums I'm really glad that I seem to have had model tenants for the last year and that they wish to stay on.

Do we need to complete and sign the full RLA AST again or can we simply extend the tenancy by way of a short document signed by both parties? If the latter, is there any form of standard wording available? All the terms will be exactly the same as existing.
