Could you please advise, I have a tenent who is having a problem with the drain. The manhole in the back garden is overflowing, she contacted a company to unblock the drain yesterday but the problem could not be resolved and she could only afford 2 hours of their service. The drain are shared by a few houses in the drive (8 houses) the tenant was told.

My understanding is that the drainage system has not been adopted by the council and the water supplier is not responsible for the drain in the drive that the property is situated.
Could you please let me know:
1. As the landlord am I responsible for blocked drain
2. If yes, if the drain are shared among a few houses how can I get the cost shared if the neighbours (some are tenants of other landlords) are not prepared to do so although some of them are experiencing the same problem.

Many thanks.
