A roof leak in my tenanted two bedroom flat caused a mould stain in one corner of the kitchen. The mould covered an area of about 4 sq metres, and because of a series of botched roof repairs had been there, worsening, for about seven months. No redecoration was possible because of ongoing damp. The situation worsened still further in an additional two month period, since a corner cabinet had to be taken down and a hole in the ceiling made to allow timbers to dry. Redecoration then took another month. Tenant has therefore had ten months of kitchen in poor state of repair, numerous visits from decorators, and a final 4 days in which kitchen was unusable as final decoration completed, although he had been able to continue using all appliances for the rest of the time. What compensation should I offer him?
