Possession - Section 8 and Section 21

good morning everyone, I think am in love with section 21b as it takes away the long agonising wait of 2 months when the rent is not forthcoming.I have tenants who have been in property for over a year with tenancy rolling into periodic can this section be served? or must it be within the first 6 months of tenancy.
