Possession - Section 8 and Section 21

My tenant entered a short hold tenancy agreement on18 th nov 2007 he has lost his job so giving him a section 21 asking to leave by31 st July and personally giving it tomorrow 24 th may is it okay pls check dates I don't want to end up in court and been told it is wrong thanks raj
