I am a Landlord in Northumberland and got bit of a shock this morning when I received a red letter demand for a vacant unfurnished property between lets.

I rang Northumberland County Council about the letter. I was told the council had dedcided to scrap the class c exemption for unfurnished properties and charge 100%.

I was advised it is not a national decision and each local authority has discretion to adjust amend.

My next question was...Why am I paying 100% when a single occupant receives a discounted rate for living in the property is empty!!!

So I would be really interested in finding out if others have come across a similar issue and what did you do to try and get it changed/lobby etc.
