New partner for my tenant

Hi,
I have a very good tenant who has been in the property for around 6 years under AST there has never been a problem in any way at all. Just recently she has moved her boyfriend in (3/4 months ago I think) I have asked if I can have his details so that I can put him on the tenancy agreement she has agreed and given me the details. I would like advice on whether its best to put him on as a tenant or under the section for "others allowed to live in the property" I am concerned this chap might not be so good if they split and she moves out leaving him there.
