Hi, I have a reliable tenant family in my property and for the past 3 months I have offered the tenant the option to just cover the mortgage since the husband lost his job during coronavirus outbreak. He was self employed, apparently not eligible for the government payout. They are usually good tenants and have re-carpeted the house themselves so I am happy to be flexible. However, the 3 month 'goodwill' period has run out and they are not being proactive in keeping me informed and the husband is still looking for work. I would like to ensure they are not taking advantage of the situation. Apparently they are receiving universal credit. Can I get their rent paid directly to me from the universal credit? ( I have never accepted housing benefit tenants previously so this is all new to me). Thanks in advance.
