If the Government determines that Landlords MUST upgrade their rented property insulation [ as part of a package ]to a new minimum level, they should be aware that 75% of the housing we have today will still be around in 2035. Most of these structures fall withing the pre -1950s age range and 70% of those are terrace houses, have solid walls, and minimal gardens. This description covers both of my rented properties. When asking the specialist architect from the webinair I was attending what proposals there were for insulating older buildings, he replied that each one was individual. I was appalled.
I am also an architect, insulated both my buildings in the early 1980s when I repaired the foundations; however unless I have a piece of paper from an accepted insulation installer within the last 20 years, it is not accepted. To achieve this 'feat' apart from the cost and the upset to good tenants, I will have to install new kitchens and bathrooms [ renewed 4 years ago]. This is not financially viable so I will take my properties off the renting market.
Has anyone championed this cause ? I cannot believe that I am the only one.
