I've applied for a direct payment for one of my tenants today. Never had to do this before so I have no idea how long it currently takes. Does it vary depending on the area? Tenants next rent payment is due 20 July so I'm not sure if they will process my application before then.

Its complicated by the fact that its a joint tenancy of a former couple who are still living together for the sake of their child. He has been covering some of the rent, but it appears that she has been getting her UC payments separately and spending the money. I've only claimed for her because he has started work again and there was no option to enter more than one tenant's details in the online form. I've also specified the whole rent and whole arrears so I'm assuming that DWP will have records of it being a joint tenancy and will work out what proportion of the rent/arrears they think she owes?

Should I follow this up with a phone call to DWP? Sorry, lots of questions.
