Hi

I currently do most of the repairs on my 3 rental properties myself, which takes lots of time and effort, but I am unable to claim this time back off my tax bill. So I was wondering if it would be better to pay someone to carry out repairs on my properties as this way I would be able to deduct the bills back off my tax bill at the end of the year. As the Tax rules have now changed, it has put me into the higher tax band of 40%, if I was to get the repair bills deducted from my tax return, this could put me back into the 20% Band.

Just wondering if my thinking is correct?

Also if get a bill for example for fixing a tap on one of the houses, would I be able to claim the whole bill for my tax return, or just the VAT part.
