I had to replace two of my property's downstairs windows. They were over 40 years old, the opening lights could no longer be secured as the handles / locks were not repairable. My tenant complained that her daughter was insecure as her parents slept upstairs. HMRC declined to accept the replacement cost when I filled in my tax return even though the cost was unavoidable. Your advice would be appreciated.
