A short while ago a murder was committed in my property which consists of a house converted into 4 self-contained flats. A single tenant of one of the flats murdered a single tenant of another flat. The facts are not in dispute and the perpetrator has been arrested and charged. The house is currently a crime scene. It is devastating and I am still in shock, but I am slowly waking up to what I might have to do when the house is no longer a crime scene? I was thinking of asking a priest to come and bless the house. There will be the belongings of the deceased. The belongings of the perpetrator who will in all probability go away for a very long time. Are there landlord legal responsibilities in such dire circumstances? The deceased had a family member living in the same City whose telephone number I have. All of the tenants have been receiving UC. I don't know if the other tenants in the other 2 flats will stay or have already left. If they all leave there is the stark reality of a very substantial mortgage on the property that still requires paying. What would you do? All posts will be very gratefully received. Thank you.
