Energy Company installed a pre payment meter

My tenant, who is due to be evicted by bailiffs today informed me last night that they had not been paying their utility bills (their responsibility), and that they had been forced to have a pre payment meter installed.

I was not informed of this.

Anyone come across this before and is it easy to have it removed? Unfortunately my tenant has not told me who their energy company was (I have asked) and therefore do not know who installed it!
