Hello

I let my property to a couple a few years ago. A few months ago they split acrimoniously with one moving out and the other remaining in the property. This post is about a tug of war between their possessions.
The lady said she had to call the police to the property as her former partner kicked her out and they have since advised that she shouldn’t return to the property. Her former partner wants to say so I’m going through a process of inventory check out to return her deposit to her, then reissue her former partner an AST in his name only.

The lady is currently refusing to return her keys telling me that I need to find a way to give her access to the property to get her stuff back. I’ve been in a ridiculous situation today with the pair of them sending each other messages through me on how the lady’s things can be returned – she sent me an itemised list to send to her former partner, with her now saying it can be dropped off at a storage facility; he’s now refusing to return her items until he gets items of his currently with her, with him also saying that the items she has taken to me has been reported to the police.

Has anyone been in this situation before? I think I’m probably being too nice in trying to arbitrate between them. The reason why I’m trying to be helpful is that they both have mentioned the police (see above for what I mean) so feel this is clearly seriously. This is really testing my patience now, with them being rude to me now (I feel). Any advice on how to tackle this would be great.

Thank-you.
