Please could anyone offer advice on a good (cheap) insurance company for landlord insurance?

Currently with the RLA recommended Rentguard.

We have never made a claim but currently have a policy up for renewal that covers 7 houses in my name only.

I had to switch from AXA to the RLA Rentguard due to me living outside of the UK.
Rent guard increased their prices for our joint properties, so looking for a better deal for my own houses.

Looking at current searches, house insurance is not mandatory. Do most landlords even bother with it?

Any advice greatly appreciated.
