Hi,

I've recently found that i have been liable for council tax charge on my empty property whilst cleaning/updating/preparing for the next tenants to move in.

I think this is grossly unfair and unreasonable, particularly as i am already paying council tax in the property i occupy and the empty property is not using minimal council resource whilst it is empty.

I think there should be a 1 month allowance for landlords to be exempt tax.

My questions:

a) Are NRLA aware of the issue?
b) Will NRLA lobby to standardise across all local government, a policy of minimum 1 month (ideally 3 months) council tax exemtion; this will allow better standard of property due to time allowed for cleaning/ updating/ refurbishing etc.

Do other landlords agree with my issue? If so, let's do domething about it!

Regards,

John
