eviction due to rent arrears

Hi
I have a tenant who is in arrears in excess of £4k, what is the process to evict, I hear I need to give 6 months notice, but when can i give that notice and when can i begin applying to the courts for possession? can it be done no win preparation for when the ban is lifted?
