Tenants (subletting to lodgers) should be subject to the same rules as do Llords, in that deposits they take should safely held in authorised schemes. I found out that a long term tnt of mine (let's call her NDG - Nasty Deposit Grabber) took £1300 - rent & deposit from one applicant (next day txted she'd changed mind, but never returned the money): and there were several other smaller amounts held back as she habitually "fell out" with lodgers & they left. These are just a few I found out about. informed me there was a complaint when I tried to advertise that property. NDG has disappeared (leaving substantial arrears) to Notts, using different surname. Can anyone suggest an organisation (NRLA or Shelter maybe?)that may want to pressurise government to change policy. You fellow Llords may not think this is "our" problem, but not only is this behaviour immoral, angry disgruntled victims know address of your property, so may take their fury out on it, when they find out it is NOT a police matter - the lodger has to take the scammer to court ( & if "convicted" they will disappear, & probably wouldn't have the money to reimburse anyway)
