My understanding is that landlord insurance on a rented property is not a legal requirement.  But if this is the case, who then pays for the damages in the following two cases: a) The washing machine causes a fire b) A wall in the property caves in because it wasn't built properly and c) The flat upstairs has a leak and the property is water-damaged and tenants can't live there and have to be rehoused.Do you have any ideas about this?
