Who is to pay the Council tax

The tenant is on a weekly Tenancy. They have given notice to end their tenancy on a Thursday, but their tenancy started on a Monday and therefore it must end on a Sunday. They have paid rent up to the Sunday, but who pays the Council Tax for the Thursday to Sunday period if the tenant vacated the property and handed back the keys on the Thursday? Technically the tenancy does not end until the Sunday (or is it actually the Thursday in this situation?), but the landlord has possession of the property from the Thursday when the keys are handed back.
