Unconfirmed occupancy

Hi
I am interested in an auction property, it appears to be repossessed but they are unable to do viewings and I have been told it is unconfirmed occupancy!
Has anyone come across this before and I assume it means the property has people living there and they have not been removed.
If this is the case what rights do I have to remove them if I then purchase the property?
Any help would be appreciated.
