Hello, my council are trying to force me to carry out a whole raft of works to my rental property after they issued a selective license for the property saying it meets the required standard. The main sticking points are they want me to replace internal doors which are not mentioned in the selective license at all, adding additional window restraints, again not mentioned in the license and the installation of a hard wired smoke alarm system, the license mere says having smoke detection on each level which my property currently does.

It seems to be clear that the council are moving the goal posts mid-term which is going to be of significant cost to me as a landlord. Is this something they can do or can I challenge the council on these works as the license was issued stating the house met requirements, and there is no mention of any of the upgrades the council are demanding.
