As followers of my words probably know I let in a Rural area. My let property has 2 forms of heating installed (as any sensible person living in a rural has), Electric Night Storage Heaters and a LPG gas fire.
In recent months the LPG supplier - Calor Gas - has written to their customer informing them that they had to have a OPSO (Over Presure Shut Off) valve installed before Calor Gas would supply replacement cylinders. I've just had such a valve installed costing £250. Speaking to a neighbour who also has LPG for heating but supplied by 'FlowGas' they haven't been told about the need for such a valve.
I've spoken with Calor about why they are insisting on OPSO valves but FlowGas isn't and they haven't given me a satisfactory answer. Nor could they point me to any legislation regarding this.
I have spent some time researching this on the 'web and the best I can find is the following

I wonder if any other member has been notified about this? I also wonder if the NRLA was aware or notified about this change? Is this a legal requirement or just a Calor Gas one? - the Gas Safe chap (Certified to work on LPG installations) I use wasn't aware of the requirement until I asked him to install an OPSO valve for me.
Finally - I'm not against installing safety kit but this does rather seem to have been sprung upon us - my tenant advised me the day he had the letter, it has taken the Gas Safe chap over 3 months to get a valve and find time to install. Calor Gas's letter informed the customers that they would not supply LPG to any customer who did not have such a valve installed after 18th October 2021.
