Your licensing update for October

This month Birmingham City Council announced it has been given the go ahead to introduce large licensing scheme as of 5th June 2023. The scheme, which will impact rental properties in 25 wards of the city, required approval from the Secretary of State in order to get the go ahead. It is estimated the scheme will be the largest in the UK, covering up to 50,000 rental properties. Learn more and view the full listed of wards here.

Schemes that went live in September

This month, a borough-wide licensing scheme came into force in Oxford on 1st September. The introduction of the new scheme, which will run for five years, means all privately rented properties in the city must have a licence to be lawfully rented out. Landlords can apply for a licence on the council’s website. A further scheme came into force on 1st September in Walsall.

Looking ahead to October, a new licensing scheme will come into force in Greenwich on 1st October. And another five-year licensing scheme is set to go live in Leicester on 10th October.

Gedling in Nottinghamshire will see selective licensing introduced on 1st November. This scheme will impact the wards of Netherfield and prescribed areas of Carlton Hill, Colwick, Daybrook and Newstead Village. Landlords can apply for a licence and learn more about the scheme here.
